Peasant Market

2024 Peasant Market

July 6th from 9 am - 1 pm

Since 1947, the people of St. Stephen’s have joined together to offer PEASANT MARKET to the Addison County community. We affectionately call the event “The Miracle On The Green”!

Peasant Market is our signature event and our largest outreach project. It is held on the Saturday after the Fourth of July. This festival has become a well-known tradition and an outdoor community event for the whole family.

There were fabulous deals on jewelry, toys, sporting goods, garden accessories, plants, household goods, linens, antiques, and collectibles. We offered fresh squeezed lemonade, homemade baked goods and our wonderful fruit pies. Check out this 1997 NY Times Magazine article about our pies

The jewelry booth always attracts a crowd.

Profits from the event fund our Peasant Market Grants program. Each year we call for grant applications from organizations in Addison County. The Outreach Committee encouraged proposals that not only addressed basic needs such as food and housing, but also offered innovative ways to curb social isolation and celebrate inclusivity. The finalists were selected with an eye for the transformative impact they could have on the lives of the participants and the community. Check out our Grantees!

The spirit of Peasant Market, among both church workers and customers, is always joyful even if skies are sometimes dark. Throughout the day, we feel the good spirit of serving the needs and desires of our local community.
